Applebee's is a North American-based, casual restaurant chain with close to 2,000 locations. Founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1980, the chain has an international presence in China, Jordan, Brazil and Ecuador.[1] Applebees locations generally feature an upbeat environment with a full bar. The restaurants feature an extensive menu filled with a variety of appetizers, main dishes, sides and desserts. The menu is focused on classic favorites and American-style flavors, but does has some international flavors in the menu. In addition to the basic menu, Applebee's features a large drink and bar menu. Despite the menu's variety, you can make several of the restaurant's classic dishes at home.

Applebee's Drink and Appetizer Recipes

Applebee's offers a wide selection of mixed drinks such as their signature Perfect Margarita that pairs well with most of their appetizer options. Signature appetizer options that can be made at home include the restaurant's Hot Spinach Artichoke Dip, Potato Twisters, or Applebee's Classic Chicken Wings. Making these dishes is appropriate for a party, sports event, or as a special treat to start off a nightly meal. On a cold night, the Baked French Onion Soup may be a good first course.[3]

Applebee's Entree Recipes

Applebee's divides their entree menu into distinct sections by price, main ingredient and caloric content. If you are on a calorie-restrictive diet, consider recreating the chain's Teriyaki Shrimp Pasta or Asiago Peppercorn Steak.[4] For pizza lovers, the Applebee's Spinach Pizza or the Vegan Spinach Pizza alternative are appropriate options.

An easy chicken entree to try is Fiesta Lime Chicken, which includes a homemade teriyaki marinade and Monterey Jack cheese for rich flavor. Another low-calorie chicken entree from the restaurant is Chipotle Lime Chicken, which features grilled chicken breasts that are marinated in a honey chile sauce. Those who are not on a diet might enjoy making the Chicken Fried Chicken.[5]

For pasta lovers, a Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo or Cajun Shrimp Pasta are quick and flavor-packed selections. Several WeightWatchers or low-calorie meal options include the Cajun Lime Tilapia, Grilled Shrimp & Island Rice, and Spicy Pineapple-Glazed Shrimp & Spinach.[6]

No matter which entree you select to replicate to home, put your own flair on the dish by customizing the spices and ingredients to your taste preferences. Whenever possible, opt for fresh ingredients to help improve the flavor and create dishes like the ones found at your local Applebee's location.

Applebee's Dessert Recipes

After preparing a signature Applebee's meal, there are plenty of desserts for sweet-toothed diners. One of the classic offerings which is no longer available at the restaurant is the Cinnamon Apple Turnover. You can make this baked good by wrapping a sliced Granny Smith apple in puff pastry and drizzling it with a brown sugar applesauce topping before baking. Other classic desserts at the chain include the Blue Ribbon Brownie and the Maple Butter Pecan Blondie.[7]
