Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls

Recreating the sweet and tender buns served at Cinnabon at home is simple once you have this copycat Cinnabon cinnamon rolls recipe. Sinfully sweet and indulgent, the cinnamon rolls are not for those watching calories. The sticky, enjoyable cinnamon rolls are perfect for a special treat, but can be pricey when purchased at your local Cinnabon location. While the company does not publish their secret recipe or name their trade-secret cinnamon variety, it's possible to come very close to the original Cinnabon cinnamon roll recipe at home.[1] Preparation takes a little time, but the ingredients are cheap and the results are worth the effort.

Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

  1. Combine 5 cups flour, 2/3 cup sugar, salt and yeast in a large mixing bowl, then set aside.
  2. Place the water, milk, remaining one tablespoon sugar and margarine in a small saucepan or microwave-safe dish. Heat until about 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Stir the milk mixture into the flour mixture. Mix in the eggs plus additional flour as needed.
  4. Knead the mixture until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn out the roll mixture on a floured surface and knead by hand for about eight to ten minutes or until smooth and elastic. The dough should be sticky, but a minimal amount of flour can be added if necessary. Cover and allow to rise for about an hour in a non-drafty area.
  6. Separate the dough into two portions, rolling each portion to about eight inches by 14 inches.
  7. Prepare the filling by mixing the sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a small bowl. Brush 1/2 cup of the melted butter over the dough. Sprinkle all but 1/2 cup of the cinnamon/sugar mixture over the dough.
  8. Roll the dough in jellyroll fashion, starting at the eight-inch edge. Brush the roll with 1/4 cup of the remaining butter and sprinkle with the 1/4 cup of remaining cinnamon/sugar mixture. Slice the dough into 12 to 15 pieces.
  9. Spread the remaining butter over a large baking sheet with edges. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon/sugar mixture over the butter. Place the dough slices close together in the pan.
  10. Allow to rise for another 30-45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until browned. Allow to cool.
  12. Prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, melted butter or margarine and lemon juice in a small bowl.
  13. Spread the icing over the warm Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. Enjoy.[12]

Comments

  • When spreading the butter, cinnamon and sugar on the rolled dough, sprinkle 3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts and/or 1/2 cup seedless raisins. Roll the dough as directed.[13]
  • Replace the icing with cream cheese frosting, if desired.
  • Don't overcook cinnamon buns in order to keep the rolls light and airy, so they melt in your mouth.[14]
  • Opt for a high quality, freshly purchased cinnamon for best results.
