Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls Recipe
- Combine 5 cups flour, 2/3 cup sugar, salt and yeast in a large mixing bowl, then set aside.
- Place the water, milk, remaining one tablespoon sugar and margarine in a small saucepan or microwave-safe dish. Heat until about 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Stir the milk mixture into the flour mixture. Mix in the eggs plus additional flour as needed.
- Knead the mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Turn out the roll mixture on a floured surface and knead by hand for about eight to ten minutes or until smooth and elastic. The dough should be sticky, but a minimal amount of flour can be added if necessary. Cover and allow to rise for about an hour in a non-drafty area.
- Separate the dough into two portions, rolling each portion to about eight inches by 14 inches.
- Prepare the filling by mixing the sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a small bowl. Brush 1/2 cup of the melted butter over the dough. Sprinkle all but 1/2 cup of the cinnamon/sugar mixture over the dough.
- Roll the dough in jellyroll fashion, starting at the eight-inch edge. Brush the roll with 1/4 cup of the remaining butter and sprinkle with the 1/4 cup of remaining cinnamon/sugar mixture. Slice the dough into 12 to 15 pieces.
- Spread the remaining butter over a large baking sheet with edges. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon/sugar mixture over the butter. Place the dough slices close together in the pan.
- Allow to rise for another 30-45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until browned. Allow to cool.
- Prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, melted butter or margarine and lemon juice in a small bowl.
- Spread the icing over the warm Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. Enjoy.[12]
Comments
- When spreading the butter, cinnamon and sugar on the rolled dough, sprinkle 3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts and/or 1/2 cup seedless raisins. Roll the dough as directed.[13]
- Replace the icing with cream cheese frosting, if desired.
- Don't overcook cinnamon buns in order to keep the rolls light and airy, so they melt in your mouth.[14]
- Opt for a high quality, freshly purchased cinnamon for best results.
