KFC Green Beans

The KFC green beans recipe is a Southern-style vegetable treat. Preparing the green beans in a pressure cooker creates a taste and texture that is not available through traditional stove-based cooking methods.[1] If you do not have a pressure cooker, you can cook the beans on the stove for about two hours or use canned green beans in the recipe instead. KFC's green beans offer a flavorful punch that is both fat-free and suitable for vegetarians. You can make these beans "country-style" by adding bacon or ham. If you like, you can prepare the beans in advance and reheat them, but they generally taste best when they're freshly prepared. The dish will stay fresh for up to a week in the refrigerator.

  3. Dice the onion and red bell pepper.[7]
  4. Place green beans, onions, red bell pepper, garlic powder, black pepper, msg, water and ham chunks into your pressure cooker.
  5. Close the lid and secure as noted in your pressure cooker's instruction manual. Place the pressure release valve on top.
  6. Set the pressure cooker to high.
  7. Turn on the high heat and allow the pressure to rise.
  8. Once the pressure cooker begins to let off steam, reduce the heat to medium and set a timer for 20 minutes. The actual cooking time may vary based on your cooker. The beans will be slightly soft when they're ready.[4]
  9. Remove the pressure cooker from the heat and remove the release valve carefully.[4]
  10. Taste the beans to see if you need to add more salt, then serve.

  2. Place oil in the bottom of the pot.
  3. Add the onion and red bell pepper to the pot over medium-high heat.

  5. Add the canned green beans to the mixture and stir
  6. Measure and add the powdered garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Add ham chunks.
  8. Cook until the beans start to boil, then cook for 1 additional minute.
  9. Remove from heat and serve.

  • The KFC recipe for green beans has changed slightly over the years. An older version included ham chunks, but the version sold in restaurants now is a vegetarian option and does not have ham.
  • You can easily customize the recipe to omit the MSG, but the flavor will be slightly muted. If you leave out the MSG, you may want to add a little more salt to enhance the final flavor.
  • Once you finish preparing the beans, you can serve them as a flavorful stand-alone side dish or include them in other dishes such as casseroles.
  • Add 2 tbsp of red wine vinegar and 2 tsp sugar to the mixture when cooking to give the beans a sweet and sour flavor.[8]
  • To make the dish heartier, add dice 8 small red potatoes and add them to the pressure cooker along with the beans.[9]
