Outback Steakhouse Herb Roasted Prime Rib


Lovers of Outback Steakhouse can duplicate the Outback Steakhouse Herb Roasted Prime Rib recipe at home to create an entree that tastes quite similar to the real deal. At the restaurant, the dish is paired with a lobster tail, and diners also get their choice of of a side salad and a baked potato with all the fixin's.[1]

Using a blend of spices as well as a touch of brown sugar, this roasted prime rib has a slightly sweet and aromatic taste. While Outback Steakhouse does not divulge the precise recipe for this dish, the copycat recipe here comes very close.

Outback Steakhouse Herb Roasted Prime Rib

  1. Cut bones off of rib roast so they remain attached, and reserve (a butcher can remove bones).[5]
  2. Mix beer, brown sugar, steak seasoning, black pepper and MSG in a bowl to make the marinade.
  3. Place rib roast in a roasting pan. Place the bones in the bottom.
  4. Cover with beer mixture, and let marinate for an hour in the refrigerator.
  5. Mix together the taco seasoning and the Italian dressing mix.
  6. Remove rib roast from refrigerator, and rub all over with the taco seasoning/dressing mix mixture.
  7. Allow to marinate for 1/2 hour in the refrigerator.
  8. Heat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.[6]
  9. Place roast on bottom rack and roast for 20 minutes.
  10. Reduce heat to 275 degrees, and bake for an hour and a half for medium-rare.
  11. Leave roast in the hot pan to keep cooking until the desired temperature is reached. (20 minutes per pound for rare; 30 minutes per pound for well done)[7]
  12. Transfer roast to serving platter or carving board. Let meat rest for a few minutes before carving.
  13. Carve individual portions and serve.

Garlic and Herb Crusted Prime Rib Recipe

Similar to the Outback Steakhouse version, this recipe adds a garlicky kick.
