Panera Classic Salad

The Panera classic salad is one of the restaurants hand-tossed cafe salads that is served daily. The basic salad combines hearty romaine lettuce with mixed field greens as a base. Tomatoes, red onions and cucumbers are placed on top of the lettuce, then it is liberally topped with Panera's balsamic vinaigrette. At the restaurant, the dressing can be served on the side. This easy salad can be tossed together quickly for a healthy, yet flavorful side dish. The key to crafting a restaurant-quality salad is to prepare the vinaigrette fresh before serving.

The Panera classic salad can be modified with different salad ingredients and by altering the balsamic vinaigrette. Consider adding carrots, bell peppers, cooked beans, olives or other salad toppings. Add some fresh cilantro, basil, chives, green onions or other herbs for an extra kick. The classic salad can be served as a main entree and topped with chicken, turkey, beef or tofu. The salad is also a great option for a starter course or for a side dish. Serve the salad with a thick slice of bread to replicate the Panera serving method. This salad also compliments spaghetti, sandwiches, and soups. Consider keeping the ingredients on hand to make frequently.
