Panera Steak and White Cheddar Panini Recipe

  1. Heat a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over a medium high flame.
  2. Place the steak slices on the skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side, until cooked through. Sprinkle 1/16 teaspoon or so (just a pinch) of salt and pepper onto each side while the opposite side is searing.
  3. Remove the steak from the skillet. Pour in the olive oil and add the sliced onions. Season them with the rest of the salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook the onions until caramelized, 20 minutes or longer.
  5. Heat up a panini press.
  6. Cut the baguette into 4 equal pieces.
  7. Spread 1 tablespoon horseradish sauce on the bottom half of each baguette piece.
  8. Top each with sliced sirloin steak, a pile of caramelized onions and a slice of white cheddar.
  9. Replace the baguette tops, and heat on the press until fully grilled. Serve immediately.

A method you can use for the Panera Steak and White Cheddar Panini

Panera presses their Steak and White Cheddar Panini, but if you don't have a panini press, do not fear. To produce the same effect, grill your sandwich in a skillet or on a flat top grill. Set a heavy item such as a plate or a small pan on top to press. Be careful when removing, as whatever you put on top of the sandwich may get very hot.
